Primary schools across the Unity Schools Partnership have joined forces to take part in a special maths enrichment day.
The Wimbledon tournament was a focal point of the Year 2 enrichment day at Burton End Primary Academy in Haverhill with events including tennis-themed maths activities and then a mini-maths sports day, led by sports leaders from the school.
A medal ceremony and customary strawberries and cream rounded the day off, with organisers proclaiming the event a big success.
Carly Wood, deputy headteacher at Burton End Academy, said: “We wanted to recognise the achievements of Year 2 pupils who had shown real progress in maths over the last year.
“We invited each primary school in the Unity Schools Partnership to bring four Year 2 children for the maths enrichment day and we thought Wimbledon would be a great topical theme.
“We all aim to make maths exciting and relevant and it was great to unite pupils from different schools within the trust.
“We had children working together who knew each other from different clubs and activities and others tell me that they had made new best friends. It was a wonderful day.”
The schools that took part were Haverhill-based Burton End, Coupals Primary Academy, Clements Primary Academy, Westfield Primary Academy and Place Farm Primary Academy as well as Steeple Bumpstead Primary School, Kedington Primary Academy, Wickhambrook Primary Academy and Woodhall Primary School in Sudbury.
