A new building on the site of a Newmarket primary school has the “wow factor”.
That is the opinion of Lisa Tweed, headteacher at Houldsworth Valley Primary Academy, following the formal opening of the school’s new classroom block.
Christened the Proud Building, the expansive space incorporates a dance studio and science classrooms and is already making a big difference to teaching, according to Mrs Tweed.
She explained: “It is very fortunate for a primary school to have its own studio on site, which means every one of our children have dance lessons every single week.
“We are also working very closely with Newmarket Academy in our new science laboratory.
“When you walk in there, it certainly has the wow factor and gives us greater resources to make our lessons more practical.”
Mrs Tweed also paid tribute to the design team for the “sympathetic” way the new building mirrors others at the school in Rowley Drive.
The six-month project was managed by Concertus Design & Property Consultants, who specialise in educational projects, and built by Cocksedge Building Contractors.
