GCSE RESULTS 2015:
Pupils at Samuel Ward celebrate an outstanding set of GCSE results today, with 72% achieving 5 A*-C with English and Mathematics. In a year when greater emphasis has been placed on the importance of pupils achieving the English Baccalaureate (A*-C grades in English, Maths, 2 GCSE sciences, a language and either History or Geography), an impressive 47% of pupils also met this more demanding measure. Last year, the national average for achieving the Ebacc was 24%. Principal Andy Prestoe said that ‘The results are fantastic, and a just reward for an awful lot of hard work. The resilience and determination that our pupils have shown in achieving them has been remarkable, and the progress that they have made is impressive. I am delighted for them. That this has been realised against a backdrop of more demanding examinations and rising expectations of young people also says a lot about the quality of teaching and support offered by our staff and their parents.’ 20% of all GCSE entries were A*-A grades and A*-C outcomes in Mathematics, English, Science, Languages, Food Technology, Latin, Graphics, Textiles, Art, Photography, Media and IT were all above 90%, with other subjects also doing well.
Newmarket Academy also saw record breaking results this year, with 51% of students taking home A*-C Grades in subjects including English and Maths. Tarek Schoehl, 16, who had only moved to the UK in year 10, achieved 5 A*'s and 5 A*'s. Other successful students included Ceri foster, who took home ten A*'s and two A's, and will be taking up a place at Hills Road in September, Emma Rooney, who achieved seven A*'s, two A's and two B's and Natasha Goodchild, who earned three A*'s and nine A's. Head of Newmarket Academy Nick Froy said: "I am incredibly proud of the students and the team of dedicated and committed staff who have worked tirelessly to challenge and support each student. "This year has been a year of rapid transformation of our academy. These results show improving outcomes for all our students and we have secured the right direction of travel and strategy to ensure improving results year on year.
A LEVEL RESULTS 2015:
Students at Samuel Ward Academy celebrate an outstanding set of A Level results today; the best that the Academy has ever achieved. A staggering 56% of all A level entries were A*-B grades, 79% A*-C, and 100% of students passed at A*-E.
Andy Prestoe, Principal, said that ‘I am incredibly proud of our students. These results have not happened by chance; they have been grafted for and are the result of a combination of high aspirations, resilience and commitment. I am delighted for them, especially as they can now go onto to study at university with confidence, including in the some of the most highly rated institutions in the country. This is great news for them and their families, but will also act as inspiration for others in the Haverhill area. I would like to thank, on behalf of our students, anyone that has helped make this day possible, including their very supportive parents and incredibly dedicated teachers.’
Thomas Gainsborough School Sixth Form also celebrated success in both its A Level and Level 3 examinations this year, with 96% of students achieving three or more passes at A-Level, and 83% attaining an A*-C Grade. Level 3 results were just as outstanding, with 85% of participating students achieving a Distinction or above. Among the highest achievers were pupils Callum Fuller and Rachel Miller, who both achieved a full set of A*'s. Both will be continuing to university in the coming year.
Headteacher Wayne Lloyd said: “We are very pleased and encouraged by these results. They reflect the hard work and application of our students and the excellent support that they have received from their teachers. We wish them every success in the future”
Newmarket Academy continued improving this year, with Head of School Nick Froy citing this year’s results as “further testament to the continuing improvement at the academy.” 18 year old Bethany Bailey from Exning attained an A in English, an A in psychology and a B in history, securing a place studying English Literature at Bath Spa University in September. Another top performer was Jarl Cross, who secured a place at Cardiff University to study Ancient and Medieval History after achieving an A in History, and further Distinctions in vocational subjects ICT and Business Studies.
