Talented Year 11 mathematicians from Samuel Ward Academy and Newmarket Academy gathered in February and March to boost their GCSE prospects at 2 revision days. Each day consisted of focussed Grade A/A* carousel workshops in the morning and then a team quiz in the afternoon. The event was sponsored by Haverhill Research Park and is a key part of a coordinated programme across the Samuel Ward Multi Academy Trust to support and challenge able mathematicians.
Mr Dale, Vice Principal said 'Both Academies are predicting record numbers of A/A* mathematics grades at GCSE this year and it was fantastic to see over 80 pupils from both schools working incredibly hard over the 2 days. There was a genuine appreciation of the importance of a high GCSE grade in mathematics and the doors that this can open. Choosing the 2 winners was very difficult but this is a reflection on their effort and achievement over the 2 days and the outstanding progress they have made since the start of Year 11. I would also like to personally thank Haverhill Research Park for their continuing support, without which this event would not have been possible. We sincerely hope that we can continue to work in a close reciprocal partnership, using the driver of high-tech mathematical based industries to further improve engagement and academic achievement in the subject.'</p
